Was lucky and got my hands on a starter that we didn't have to turn in for a core. So, I set out to take it completely apart! Here are some pictures of my endeavor.

So, you got it apart. What conclusions can you make about that starter? What made it fail? Could that failure been prevented? What is the reduction ratio of the planetary gear drive?
